Laos reports new COVID-19 case after 39 days

VIENTIANE, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Lao Ministry of Health reported one new COVID-19 case on Wednesday for the first time after 39 days, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 24.

Lao Deputy Minister of Health Phouthone Meaungpak told a press conference in Lao capital Vientiane on Wednesday that the patient is 23-year-old student who returned from Russia.

The patient traveled from Russia on Oct. 15, transited through South Korea on Oct. 17, and arrived in Laos on Oct. 18.

The patient has been treated in a designated hospital, Mittaphab Hospital (Hospital 150) in Lao capital Vientiane since Tuesday, and he is not in serious condition.

As of Wednesday, 61,699 suspected cases have been tested in Laos with 24 cases positive and 22 patients have been discharged from hospitals.

Laos announced its first two COVID-19 confirmed cases on March 24. Enditem
