DAR ES SALAAM, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania's weather watchdog on Wednesday issued advisories and early warnings ahead of seasonal rains expected to begin in November 2020 through April 2021 in various parts of the country.
In a statement, the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), said stagnant water was likely to occur and create favorable environment for breeding sites and water contamination, which may trigger outbreaks of vector-borne and water-borne diseases.
"Communities are advised to treat drinking water, prevent and destroy mosquito breeding sites, take proper sanitation as well as improve hand washing habit and ensure environmental hygiene," said the statement.
TMA also urged disaster management committees at regional, district, ward and village level to take necessary measures against impacts that may result from heavy rains. Enditem
