KUNMING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Pupiao Township in southwest China's Yunnan Province has seen a bumper harvest of persimmons, thanks to its favorable natural environment.

Pupiao is well-known for its high-quality persimmons rich in selenium. The township has grown 2,000 hectares of persimmons, and this year's production is expected to reach about 30,000 tonnes worth about 200 million yuan (30 million U.S. dollars).

The region receives ample sunshine and boasts rich water resources, fertile land and an average temperature of 12 degrees Celcius, making Pupiao persimmon cultivation a distinctive industry for local farmers.

Currently, farmers can pick about 300 tonnes of persimmons every day during the harvest season. Enditem
