AMMAN, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- The tally of COVID-19 cases in Jordan exceeded 50,000 on Saturday after 1,820 new infections were recorded.

The total COVID-19 cases in the kingdom rose to 50,750, while the fatalities from the virus climbed by 32 to 540, the Jordanian Health Ministry said in a statement.

Jordan also reported 117 recovered cases, bringing the total number of recoveries to 7,508.

Health Minister Nazir Obeidat said that a total of 125 designated spots to conduct PCR tests were fully prepared to operate soon across the kingdom, state-run Petra news agency reported.

The ministry is committed to raising the capacity of public hospitals and nursing institutions to ease the pressure on them due to a surge of COVID-19 infections, said the minister.

China has supported Jordan in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic that started in March in the country. On May 31, China donated a batch of medical supplies to Jordan to help combat the coronavirus. Enditem
