YANGON, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Union Election Commission (UEC) has requested all political parties and parliament representative candidates to obey the electoral directives in their election campaigns and to urge their parties' members and supporters to follow the prescribed guidelines.

According to the announcement on late Saturday, the political parties and parliament representative candidates are also asked to abide the code of conduct for political parties and candidates, the standard operating procedure for prevention and control of COVID-19, and the healthcare regulations and guidelines issued by relevant authorities.

The 60-day election campaigns have been launched since early September and it has now been 15 days left for the general elections and 13 days left for the electoral campaign period, the announcement said.

The Ministry of Health and Sports has issued the order in organizing electoral gatherings and campaign activities, it is required to observe the following guidelines, maximum 50 people for one time with a distance of six feet between each person, an area of 36 square feet for each person, and a location of good ventilation.

However, it is found that political parties, parliament representative candidates and their supporters are lacking in the observance of the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports by over limiting 50 people and ignoring the social distancing rule, the announcement said.

According to the announcement, all eligible voters are asked to collaborate in casting their votes in line with the respective rules and regulations.

UEC has been working for the successful holding of the upcoming general elections at all the townships announced earlier in a stable and tranquil manner.

Myanmar's general elections 2020 will be held on Nov. 8 this year and the five-year term of the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) government will end in March 2021. Enditem
