DHAKA, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- The 34th span of the Padma Bridge, the largest in Bangladesh, has been installed, making over 5 km of its main structure visible Sunday.

Engineers of China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co, Ltd (MBEC) on Sunday morning successfully installed the around 3,200-ton span which was placed on the pillars 7 and 8 of the 6.15-km bridge in presence of the Bangladeshi and the Chinese officials.

With the installation of the 150-meter long span, 5.1 km of the bridge is now visible.

Another span is slated to be installed this month, while the rest will be installed by December.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the main works of Padma Bridge project, the biggest of its kind in the country, in December 2015.

Apart from connecting nearly 30 million people in Bangladesh's southwest region to the rest of the country, the bridge will enhance regional trade and collaboration along the Asian highway No. 1 and the Trans-Asian railway network. Enditem
