KHOST, Afghanistan, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Six persons including four attackers were killed and 25 others including nine civilians injured as a car bomb went off close to a police base in Khost, capital of eastern Afghanistan's Khost province on Tuesday, Interior Ministry spokesman Tareq Arian said.

According to the official, the militants first detonated an explosive-laden car close to the base of the Special Police Force at 05:50 a.m. local time and four militants then entered the compound and began firing.

"Two security personnel and all the four attackers were killed," Arian told Xinhua.

The official confirmed that 16 security personnel and nine civilians were also injured in the fighting.

Meanwhile, spokesman for the provincial government Talib Mangal told Xinhua that after detonating the explosive-laden car that destroyed the compound wall of the unit, a militant blew himself up, enabling other militants to enter the compound.

Mangal noted that the gun fight was over. He didn't gave information about casualties, only saying an investigation has been underway.

However, a doctor from Khost hospital has confirmed that three dead bodies of security personnel and 40 injured persons including 23 security personnel had been taken to the hospital.

No group has claimed responsibility yet. Enditem
