BANGKOK, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Office of the National Water Resources (NWR) on Tuesday issued warnings for communities surrounding the country's six largest water reservoirs against the upcoming typhoon Molave.
Thailand's six large reservoirs include Chulabhorn in Chaiyaphum province, Lam Takhong, Lam Phra Phloeng, and Mun Bon in Nakhon Ratchasima, Khun Dan Prakan Chon in Nakhon Nayok, and Nong Pla Lai in Rayong province.
The NWR has warned these provinces of the risk of water overflowing or dam bursting.
"Preparation is needed to help reduce impacts of the typhoon on people who live around the reservoirs," said NWR Deputy Secretary-General Samroeng Sangphuwong.
Typhoon Molave is forecast to make landfall in Thailand on Wednesday, when heavy rains in the lower north, northeast, east, central region and south will increase the risk of flash floods and landslides.
Rough seas are forecast during the same period in the Andaman Sea and in the Gulf, with 2-3 meter high waves and 3-meter waves in stormy areas. Sailors are advised to avoid stormy areas. Small boats should remain ashore. Enditem
