NEW DELHI, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government's guidelines regarding relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions issued on Sept. 30 will remain in force until Nov. 30, a statement issued by the government said Tuesday.

According to the directive, there will be no restriction on inter-state and intra-state movement of persons and goods.

"Lockdown shall continue to be implemented strictly in the containment zones till Nov. 30, 2020," the home ministry said.

The home ministry on Sept. 30 issued guidelines for permitting more activities in areas outside the containment zones that include opening up cinemas, theaters and multiplexes with up to 50 percent of their seating capacity from Oct. 15.

However, the local governments were given the flexibility to decide on reopening schools and coaching institutions in a graded manner, and permitting social, religious and political gatherings beyond the limit of 100 people, subject to certain conditions.

The ministry had said that restrictions on international travel will continue, except those permitted by the federal government.

India imposed a nationwide lockdown on March 25 to contain the spread of COVID-19, and has been gradually opening up recently.

India's health ministry said Tuesday that the number of COVID-19 cases in the country reached 7,946,429 and the death toll rose to 119,502.

Globally India is the second worst-hit country by the COVID-19 pandemic. Enditem
