S.Korea's export volume posts 1st growth in 6 months

SEOUL, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export volume posted the first growth in six months last month thanks to demand for electronic devices, central bank data showed Thursday.

In terms of volume, the outbound shipment advanced 13.9 percent in September from a year earlier, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK). It was the first turnaround in six months, marking the highest increase since October 2018.

It was attributed to solid demand for electronic devices. Export of computers, electronic and optical devices went up 10.1 percent last month.

Semiconductor shipment jumped 17.5 percent in September from a year earlier, with chemical product export rising up 28.0 percent in the month.

In terms of value, the export grew 8.0 percent in September on a yearly basis, posting the first rebound in seven months since March.

Export value for coal and oi products plunged 43.6 percent last month, but shipment for computers, electronic and optical devices advanced 11.1 percent. Chemical product export jumped 16.4 percent in the month.
