NEW DELHI, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- India's health ministry Saturday said focused efforts of federal and local governments on efficient clinical management of hospitalized cases have ensured that the country's case fatality rate (CFR) has fallen below 1.5 percent.
"India has witnessed significant success in its collective fight against the global pandemic. The CFR has fallen below 1.5 percent. On a progressive decline, the CFR is 1.49 percent today," the ministry said.
"The centre (federal government)-led strategy of - test, trace, track, treat - has focused on effective containment strategy, aggressive testing and standardized clinical management protocols based on comprehensive standard of care approach which includes use of anticoagulants and non-invasive oxygen. The effective implementation by the state governments has resulted in early identification, prompt isolation and timely clinical management of the hospitalized cases. These have ensured that India's COVID mortality is kept low and within manageable numbers."
According to the ministry, India's deaths per million is also at a very low level of 88 deaths per million.
At present more than 20 states have CFR lower than the national average. Experts attribute the steps taken by the government for bringing down the fatality rate.
So far 7,432,829 people have recovered, which has pushed the recovery rate to 91.34 percent.
As India continues to report a trend of steadily decreasing active cases, presently the number of active cases is 582,649, which comprise 7.16 percent of the total positive cases.
On Saturday India's federal health ministry said the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 8,137,119 including 121,641 deaths. Enditem
