Macao's land containerized cargo grows by 49.2 pct in September

MACAO, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- The gross weight of containerized cargo by land to Macao in September grew by 49.2 percent year-on-year to 3,007 tonnes, the special administrative region's statistic service said here on Saturday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that 98.8 percent or 2,969 tonnes of land cargo passed through the checkpoint of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge in September.

In the first three quarters of 2020, the gross weight of containerized cargo by land rose by 33.5 percent year-on-year to 18,968 tonnes, the DSEC report added.

The gross weight of port containerized cargo fell by 11.9 percent year-on-year to 11,064 tonnes in September. The cargo handled at the Kaho Harbour tumbled by 70.6 percent to 1,776 tonnes, whereas that shipped through the Inner Harbour surged by 42.4 percent to 9,288 tonnes.

In the first three quarters of 2020, the gross weight of port containerized cargo decreased by 25.3 percent year-on-year to 83,274 tonnes.

The air cargo in September totaled 3,303 tonnes, up by 1.8 percent year-on-year. The gross weight of outward cargo grew by 31.7 percent to 2,891 tonnes, whereas that of inward cargo and transit cargo fell by 47.6 percent and 78.3 percent respectively to 314 tonnes and 98 tonnes.

In the first three quarters of 2020, the air cargo went down by 25.8 percent to 21,052 tonnes. Enditem
