BANGKOK, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Narcotics Suppression Bureau reported Thursday that approximately 29 billion baht (959.63 million U.S. dollars) worth of contraband ketamine, were seized.

The bureau said that the contraband medication is likely destined for Europe, Japan or South Korea.

"Our initial investigations say that this huge haul of contraband ketamine is operated by an illegal multinational network," said Pol. Lt Gen. Montri Yimyaem, who leads the investigation from the Narcotics Suppression Bureau.

Montri said he suspected that the ketamine is not that popular in Thailand and therefore he is convinced it is destined to some third countries.

Montri said narcotics suppression officers seized 11.4 tons of ketamine at a warehouse in Chachoengsao province, east of Bangkok.

Thailand's Minister of Justice Somsak Thepsutin warned that anyone found to be involved in the smuggling of the illicit drug will face the tough Thai law.

Somsak added that he will expand investigations regarding this matter with other countries. Enditem
