ADEN, Yemen, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- At least five soldiers of pro-government Yemeni forces were killed by the Houthi rebels in the country's southern province of Dhalea on Thursday, a military official told Xinhua.
"An all-out offensive was launched by the Houthis in an attempt to achieve on-ground advancement into further areas in Dhalea's northern part," the local military source said on condition of anonymity.
He said that hours of armed confrontations broke out between the Houthi attackers and the pro-government soldiers stationed near the Qataba district.
The official confirmed that five soldiers were killed and several others injured during the conflict.
The casualties among the Houthi rebels are still unavailable.
Last year, the Houthi rebels launched a series of intense armed attacks on the pro-government forces and succeeded in seizing key villages on the outskirts of Dhalea.
The areas in the north and west of Dhalea have been witnessing non-stop fighting between government forces and Houthi fighters for about four years.
Yemen has been plagued by a civil war since late 2014 when Houthi militias forced the internationally-recognized government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi into exile. Enditem
