SANTIAGO, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chile registered another 1,597 cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours, for a total of 531,273, as well as 42 more deaths, bringing the death toll to 14,819, the Ministry of Health reported on Sunday.

Meanwhile, according to the ministry, 506,700 people have recovered from the disease.

A total of 721 people are currently in intensive care units, with 571 on ventilators and 82 in critical condition.

Minister of Health Enrique Paris urged Chileans to continue following sanitary measures to prevent further infections regardless of whether the town of their residence is under quarantine or has progressed toward ending confinement.

"Masks should be used always and throughout the country. There are exceptions, when eating, when enjoying the sea, but whether outdoors or indoors, the use of the mask is essential," said Paris, adding that people should try to maintain a physical distance of at least one meter as well as continue to wash hands frequently.

The Chilean regions with the highest number of confirmed cases in the last seven days are Atacama, Los Rios, Nuble and Tarapaca. Enditem
