CHANGSHA, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- A central Chinese city on Thursday set up a town for online literature creation in an effort to tap into the booming cultural industry.

The town is located in a cultural industrial park in Changsha, capital of Hunan Province and a city known for its vibrant cultural and entertainment sector.

Yu Yan, who heads the town, said the town has dedicated spaces for writing and displaying works as well as business incubation. It will bring in companies and personnel to form a complete industrial chain from literary creation to publication, and the adaptation of movies, games and animations.

"Chinese online literature used to follow a wild path of development," Yu said, adding that a small number of top-rated writers used to occupy most of the market share. The town is thus meant to offer more writers a chance at securing a piece of this promising market.

Online literature has a huge fan base in China. According to the China Statistical Report on Internet Development, the literature genre had 455 million readers in China by March 2020, representing half of the country's netizen population.

The establishment of the town was part of the 2020 China New Media Conference, an event, which concluded on Friday in Changsha, that discussed the latest trends in China's new media sector. Enditem
