Roundup: Asia-Pacific countries on high alert of COVID-19 as India records over 9 mln cases

HONG KONG, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- More confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported in Asia-Pacific countries as India's total tally surpassed 9 million on Friday, said the federal health ministry.

With 45,882 new cases across the country, the tally reached 9,004,365, while the death toll reached 132,162 as 584 more patients died, the official data showed.

Still there are 443,794 active cases in the country, as 8,428,409 people have been discharged from hospitals after treatment.

The number of confirmed cases in Indonesia rose by 4,792 in the past 24 hours to 488,310, with the death toll increasing by 78 to 15,678, the health ministry said.

According to the ministry, 3,940 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 410,552.

The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines reported 1,639 new confirmed cases, bringing the total tally to 415,067.

The DOH said that 305 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 375,237. The death toll rose to 8,025 after 27 more patients died from the coronavirus epidemic.

Malaysia reported 958 new infections, the health ministry said, bringing the national total to 52,638.

Three more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 329.

South Korea reported 363 more cases, raising the total number of infections to 30,017.

Of the new cases, 127 were Seoul residents and 62 were people residing in Gyeonggi province.

Forty-three were imported, lifting the combined figure to 4,355.

Three more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 501. The total fatality rate stood at 1.67 percent. Enditem
