BERLIN, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Germany reported 15,741 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the nationwide tally to 918,269, according to data released Sunday by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).
Meanwhile, 138 more deaths were reported, taking the national count to 14,022, the tally showed.
The RKI record was a little lower than that of the Johns Hopkins University, which registered 927,990 cases as of 0500 GMT on Sunday with 14,061 deaths.
The country entered a partial lockdown in November in reaction to the second COVID-19 wave and rising infection numbers.
Calling for "global efforts," German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Saturday in a pre-recorded video message released at an online summit of the Group of 20 major economies. "If we stand together worldwide, we can control and overcome the virus and its consequences. This is also worth more effort."
Earlier this month, she said at a press conference that she expected a vaccine to be approved in Europe in December or "very soon after the turn of the year." Enditem
