LOS ANGELES, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions' comedy horror film "Freaky" topped the North American box office for a second straight weekend with 1.22 million U.S. dollars from 2,057 locations, according to studio figures collected by measurement firm Comscore.

The box office this weekend has been the lowest since North American theaters' reopening in summer amid the COVID-19 pandemic. There is no new wide release from major Hollywood studios as Jackie Chan's Chinese action adventure film "Vanguard" is the only new wide release.

"Freaky" has grossed 5.6 million dollars after ten days in North America.

Directed by Christopher Landon and starring Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton, the low-budget film with a reported 6-million-dollar cost tells the story of a 17-year-old girl who unintentionally switches bodies with a relentless serial killer and has to race against the clock to reverse the curse.

The R-rated film holds an approval rating of 84 percent based on 176 reviews to date on review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.

"The War with Grandpa," the 101 Studios' family comedy film, came in second with 733,000 dollars from 1,688 locations in its seventh weekend for a North American cume of 16.18 million dollars.

Directed by Tim Hill and based upon the novel of the same name by the late American children's book author Robert Kimmel Smith, the film stars two-time Academy Award winner Robert De Niro. The plot follows a sixth-grader who works to get his grandfather to move out of his room after he moves in with his family.

Focus Features' "Let Him Go" landed in third with 710,000 dollars from 1,907 locations in its third weekend, pushing its North American cume to 7.92 million dollars.

Directed by Thomas Bezucha, based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Larry Watson, the Western thriller stars two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as a retired sheriff and his wife who leave their Montana ranch to rescue their young grandson from the clutches of a dangerous family living off the grid in the Dakotas, headed by matriarch Blanche Weboy.
