KABUL, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Five Taliban militants were killed and three others wounded in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar during Monday night, the country's Ministry of Defense confirmed on Tuesday.
In one incident, three armed militants were killed and three others wounded after Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) based on active defense status responded to an attack on security checkpoints in Panjwahi district, the ministry said in a statement.
In neighboring Zhari district, two militants were killed after an improvised bomb they were planting along a dusty road detonated prematurely, the statement read.
The province has been the scene of heavy clashes in recent years as Taliban militants have attempted to seize more land and consolidate their position.
The militant group has yet to make comments on the report. Enditem
