ZAGREB, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Parliament of Croatia passed a new Foreign Nationals Act on Wednesday, stipulating that the government will no longer set employment quotas for foreign nationals.
The new law that will come into force on Jan. 1, 2021 will oblige employers to request the Croatian Employment Service to conduct a labor market test before submitting applications for residence and work permits for foreigners. The test should show whether there are Croatian citizens interested in those jobs.
If there are no unemployed Croatians who meet the employers' requirements, it will be possible to apply to the Ministry of the Interior for permits to foreign workers.
The procedure will last a maximum 30 days.
The law specifies exceptions, when tests will not be conducted for shortage occupations, and it also includes provisions for the entry, residence and work of foreigners in Croatia.
A new type of long-stay "visa D" is also introduced to grant foreign citizens temporary residence for work, family reunification, study or research.
The law also regulates the right of temporary residence for so-called "digital nomads", foreigners who do business online for foreign employers. Enditem
