JAKARTA, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- More than 1,000 houses in Sarolangun and Merangin districts of Indonesia's Jambi Province were flooded due to heavy rains, according to local disaster agencies on Thursday.

The Sarolangun District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said the floods submerged houses up to 2 meters high.

The spates also inundated rice fields and damaged bridges as well as roads.

Officers turned government offices into evacuation points and deployed three motorboats to evacuate residents.

In Merangin district, more than 2 meters of waters submerged house roofs.

The Merangin District Disaster Management Agency said the floods also broke a suspension bridge and forced the closure of a road because the Batang Masumai River was overflowing.

The only road access from Masumai sub district to Bangko city was cut off, and hundreds of residents were isolated.

The district agency has deployed two motorboats, but more boats are needed to evacuate all residents. Enditem
