SHANGHAI, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Zhiji Motor, a high-end smart electric vehicle brand, has been launched by leading Chinese automaker SAIC Motor, Shanghai's Pudong New Area and e-commerce giant Alibaba Group in Shanghai.
The project, which was launched Thursday, is expected to see investment of 10 billion yuan. It will focus on technological innovation and application, with a brand-new operating model that seeks to "break the boundaries between users and enterprises," according to a source with SAIC Motor.
Pudong New Area will bring core technology resources, such as artificial intelligence and computer chips at its world-class high-tech industrial cluster Zhangjiang High-tech Park, while Alibaba will use technologies including big data and cloud computing to empower the new brand.
As an important SAIC Motor project, Zhiji Motor has already established a research institute focusing on smart transportation with global scientific and technological professionals, said the SAIC Motor source.
The production and sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China have occupied nearly half of the global market. In September this year, the sales volume of NEVs increased 67.7 percent year on year in the country. Enditem
