BANGKOK, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Two Thai women who illegally crossed the border to return to Thailand from Myanmar have been confirmed to be positive with COVID-19, according to a report issued by the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Monday.

The two young women in their 20s illegally entered northern Thailand from eastern Myanmar through a natural border path last week, avoiding the health screening at the border checkpoint, said the report.

They later conducted the test for COVID-19 in a hospital in the Chiang Rai city and were found to be infected, said the CCSA report.

Before them, earlier this month, a 29-year-old Thai woman who entered Thailand by illegally crossing the border from east Myanmar's border town Tachileik had tested positive for the coronavirus.

The infected women were among the several trespassers found to use natural paths to cross the Thai-Myanmar border despite the stepped-up security measures along the border due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Enditem
