NUR-SULTAN, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin called on the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) members to strengthen cooperation in the agro-industry, the prime minister's press service said on Monday.

Mamin made the appeal when addressing the 19th meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which was held via video link.

Mamin proposed revising the SCO cooperation program on food security passed by the agriculture ministers of the member states in 2018, supplementing it with specific measures to increase investment and innovation cooperation in the agricultural sector.

According to the prime minister, the program must be strengthened, taking into account the competitive advantages of each of the SCO member states, as well as new approaches to ensuring a reliable, accessible and resistant logistics infrastructure to external and internal shocks.

Mamin also called for boosting industrial and investment cooperation within the SCO.

"The implementation of joint investment projects will enhance the level of integration of national economies, diversify the directions of production processes and increase their stability, expand the access of the value created by the SCO member states to both mutual and foreign markets, maximize the potential of economies through competitive advantages, and mitigate the impact of external shocks," he said.
