HOHHOT, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Wuhan was unable to snatch its first win of the season after losing to Shandong 70-57, while Jiangsu climbed to the top of the table with an 83-70 victory over Zhejiang in the Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) league here on Friday.
Yang Hengyu had a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds for Shandong, which also got 18 points from Cao Junwei and 15 from Wang Yingzhu.
Shandong started strong in the match, going up 21-7 as the first quarter ran out. Wuhan trimmed the deficit to four points after Han Biaobiao made a layup with two minutes remaining in the second period, but Shandong's full-court one-to-one defense worked out to establish a 36-30 lead at the break.
The see-saw battle continued after the interval. Wuhan put the game within striking distance, but could not erase its single-digit deficit and had to swallow its 11th straight defeat in this WCBA campaign.
Wuhan forward Ha Wenxi finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Peng Huaqian added 11.
Jiangsu raced to a 13-2 start before going up 23-14 after the first quarter and extended its margin to 18 points after Liang Jiamei's three-pointer midway in the second quarter. Dong Ke'er, Wan Jiyuan and Chen Jianan made three consecutive shots from beyond the arc, while Liang answered with a shot from 3-point range to snap Jiangsu's skid. Jiangsu built a 46-32 lead at the break.
Another 9-0 scoring run early in the second half put Jiangsu up by 23 points, and Zhejiang didn't threaten from there.
Xu Chenyan contributed 27 points and nine rebounds for Jiangsu. Luo Xinyu and Gong Li each contributed 13.
Wan shot 7 of 10 from the field to lead Zhejiang with 16 points. Dong and Wang Mengqi had 10 apiece.
The WCBA's 12th round continues on Saturday. Unbeaten Inner Mongolia will face Tianjin, while Beijing takes on Shanxi. Enditem
