ZAGREB, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Members of the Croatian Parliament adopted on Friday amendments to the Law on the Protection of Citizens from Infectious Diseases, introducing penalties for non-compliance with epidemiological measures to combat COVID-19.
The law stipulates a fine of 500 kuna (80 U.S. dollars) for not wearing a mask in places where it is mandatory and a fine of up to 10,000 kuna (1,600 U.S. dollars) if more than 10 people are present at private gatherings in apartments.
A total of 76 deputies voted in favor of changing the law, while 53 were against.
At the same time, the National Civil Protection Headquarters announced on Friday a plan for mass vaccination of the population, which will be free of charge.
Key people of the Headquarters, Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic, Health Minister Vili Beros, Director of the Croatian Institute of Public Health Krunoslav Capak declared that they will be vaccinated in front of television cameras in order to popularize vaccination that will be voluntary in Croatia.
The Croatian government is preparing a special campaign to encourage people to vaccinate against COVID-19 once a vaccine is available.
Croatia has ordered COVID-19 vaccines from several companies through the European Union, and they are expected to be delivered to the country as soon as they are registered.
