BEIJING, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

LONDON -- Another 15,539 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 1,705,971, according to official figures released Saturday.

The coronavirus-related deaths in Britain rose by 397 to 61,014, the data showed.

BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi Ministry of Health reported on Saturday 1,898 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total nationwide infections to 562,520.

It also reported 24 new deaths and 1,885 more recovered cases in the country, raising the death toll from the infectious virus to 12,411 and the total recoveries to 491,657.

China has been helping Iraq fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Since March 7, China has also sent three batches of medical aid to Iraq.

BELGRADE -- The overall number of COVID-19 cases in Serbia has increased to 213,843 on Saturday, as authorities try to expand capacities for the growing number of severe cases.

The Ministry of Health confirmed Saturday afternoon another 6,903 infections from testing 18,232 people in the past 24 hours. In the same period, 57 people died, raising the COVID-19 death toll in Serbia to 1,891.

THE HAGUE -- The Netherlands on Saturday reported 6,577 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total caseload to 550,445, said the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment.

Meanwhile, 39 people have died from the disease over the past 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 9,662.

WASHINGTON -- The United States registered 227,885 new COVID-19 cases within 24 hours, breaking the record of daily new cases for the second day in a row, according to Johns Hopkins University.

The previous record was registered on Friday, with 225,201 new cases reported.

During the same period, the country reported 2,607 COVID-19 related deaths, said the university.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland reported 17 new imported COVID-19 cases Saturday, bringing the total number of imported cases to 3,936.

Six each imported cases were reported in Shanghai and Fujian, two in Guangdong and one each in Sichuan, Yunnan and Shaanxi, the National Health Commission said in its daily report Sunday.

YANGON -- Myanmar on Saturday reported 1,527 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing its total tally to 98,047.

The Myanmar's health ministry also said the death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic rose to 2,081 with 22 new deaths recorded in the past 24 hours.

ADDIS ABABA -- As of Friday, Ethiopia reported 512 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 112,091, the country's Health Minister Lia Tadesse said on Twitter.

Meanwhile, 10 more COVID-19 deaths were recorded, taking the country's death toll from the disease to 1,734, she said.
