SANAA, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- A total of 22 rebels and four soldiers were killed in clashes in Yemen's central province of Marib in the past 24 hours, as the government forces repulsed attacks by Houthi rebels, a government military source said on Tuesday.

Dozens from both sides were also wounded on the front line in the district of Madghal in the northern part of the government-held province, the source told Xinhua.

Meanwhile, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported 12 airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition on the group's positions in Madghal as well as in the adjacent district of Sirwah on Monday night. It provided no further details.

There was no comment from the coalition over the alleged airstrikes.

Yemen has been mired in civil war since late 2014, when the Iran-backed Houthis seized control of several northern provinces and forced the internationally-recognized government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi out of the capital Sanaa.

The Saudi-led Arab military coalition intervened in the Yemen conflict in 2015 to support the government of Hadi. Enditem
