WELLINGTON, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- The New Zealand Ministry of Health reported one new case of COVID-19 on Saturday.

According to the ministry, the new case is an Air New Zealand aircrew member, who arrived in New Zealand on Dec. 9 on a flight from the United States.

This person previously tested negative on Dec. 3 and is currently asymptomatic, "Our latest test results indicate that this is a very new infection," said the ministry.

All other aircrews on the flight have shown negative results and will remain in isolation.

The risk to the general public was considered low, according to the ministry. However, the New Zealand public was urged to stay vigilant.

"As always, anyone, anywhere in New Zealand, who develops cold or flu symptoms should stay at home and get in touch with their health care provider or Healthline for information and advice."

The Ministry of Health has reduced the frequency of its COVID-19 media updates to four times a week.

However, the ministry said that it would report any instance outside its routine cases in the managed isolation facilities.

New Zealand recorded a total of 1,736 confirmed cases of COVID-19 by Friday. Enditem
