BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Mateo Coronel struck a second-half equalizer to earn Argentinos Juniors a 1-1 draw with River Plate in their opening match of the Argentine Primera Division championship stage on Sunday.
Coronel met a Gabriel Hauche cross with a first-time finish from close range after the hosts' defence was unravelled by a series of one-touch passes.
Julian Alvarez had given River a first-half lead by converting a penalty after Rafael Borre was brought down by Lucas Chaves.
In other matches on Sunday, Lanus won 2-1 at Aldosivi and Defensa y Justicia won 3-1 at Union Santa Fe.
