Over 1,500 people flee floods in Indonesia's Central Java

JAKARTA, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1,567 people have fled home as their houses were flooded since Monday in Cilacap district, Central Java province, the local disaster management agency reported Wednesday.

The Cilacap District Disaster Management Agency said the flooding was caused by heavy rains between Sunday afternoon and early Monday.

Previously, floods had inundated 35 villages in 12 sub-districts.

Currently, the floods are gradually receding while submerging the remaining 25 villages in seven sub-districts.

There were 11,618 houses affected by the floods in the area. Local officials are still working to record and assess damages and losses. Enditem
