507 health workers in Indonesia have died of virus: COVID-19 mitigation watch

JAKARTA, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- As many as 507 health workers in Indonesia have died of COVID-19 since March, according to an Indonesian COVID-19 mitigation watch.

"The biggest number of deaths occurred this month, up to 96 health workers," the KawalCOVID-19, an independent association that advocates transparency of information and policies related to handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia, said on Tuesday.

Of the 507 health workers, 228 were doctors, 13 dentists, 167 nurses, 68 midwives, 10 laboratory assistants, two dental therapists, four radiologists, two ambulance drivers, one pharmacy worker, six pharmacists, one electromedicine worker, one sanitarian, and four from the other categories.

All the cases came from 29 provinces in Indonesia.

As of Tuesday, Indonesia has recorded 727,122 cases of COVID-19, with 596,783 recoveries and 21,703 deaths. Enditem
