Thailand reports 212 new COVID-19 infections, total cases top 10,000

BANGKOK, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Thailand on Saturday reported 212 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country's total caseloads to top 10,000, according to official data.

Of the new cases, 193 were domestic infections while 19 others were those who had returned from abroad and tested positive in this country, said Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration.

Thailand has so far confirmed 10,053 cases, with more than 5,000 of the infections being reported since mid-December when the latest cluster of cases was detected in Samut Sakhon.

Of the total, 5,546 patients have fully recovered and been released from hospitals while 4,440 others are currently hospitalized and 67 fatalities have been reported so far, Taweesin said.

The latest outbreak has spread to 58 of the country's 77 provinces and regions, 28 of which have been declared as areas under maximum control, including the capital Bangkok. Enditem
