According to local authorities, the total population of all ethnic groups in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region maintained growth in the eight years from 2010 to 2018. As the data released by the Statistics Bureau of Xinjiang shows that from 1978 to 2018, the Uygurs had seen a larger population than the Han nationality in Xinjiang. The Uygur population in Xinjiang was 10.17 million in 2000, and 12.71 million in 2018. The population of the Han ethnic group in Xinjiang was 8.83 million in 2000, and 9 million in 2018. And the total population of all ethnic minorities in Xinjiang rose by 2.87 million to 15.86 million in the eight years from 2010 to 2018, an increase of 22.14 percent.
