LUSAKA, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- The local authority in Lusaka, the Zambian capital, on Tuesday said preparations to open an international bus station to enhance enforcement of COVID-19 guidelines have advanced.

Miles Sampa, Mayor of the Zambian capital said there was need to urgently segregate international buses from local ones in the wake of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic which has seen a rise in cases.

He said in a release that segregating international buses from local ones will make it easy to fight the spread of COVID-19 among local and international travelers.

According to him, international travelers needed to be screened before interacting with local people as buses require to be disinfected.

The local authority has since identified an area on the outskirts of the central business district where international buses will be required to use, he said.

He added that public health inspectors and other support staff will be deployed at the station. Enditem
