Chinese city builds isolation center with 3,000 rooms to curb COVID-19

SHIJIAZHUANG, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- A centralized medical observation center with 3,000 rooms is near completion in Zhengding county in China's Hebei Province, after about 5 days of construction.

Each room with an area of 18 square meters is equipped with a bed, electric heater, toilet and sink. WiFi access is also available.

The construction project started on Jan. 13.

Residents who were close contacts or secondary contacts of the confirmed cases will move in after the rooms are furnished.

By the end of Saturday, there were 715 locally transmitted confirmed cases and two imported cases being treated in hospitals in Hebei.

Another 203 locally transmitted asymptomatic cases and five imported asymptomatic cases are under medical observation.
