SOFIA, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria's Finance Minister Kiril Ananiev has tested positive for COVID-19, the minister's press office said on Wednesday.

The 65-year-old minister, who has been serving on the post since July last year, is in good condition and without symptoms, according to the press office.

Before becoming finance minister, Ananiev was minister of health from November 2017 to July 2020.

At least two cabinet members have already tested positive for COVID-19 -- the Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in October, and the Minister of Youth and Sports Krasen Kralev in August.

A total of 212,927 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the Balkan country so far, and the total number of deaths stood at 8,614.

While the world is struggling to contain the pandemic, vaccination is underway in the Balkan country, where 22,226 people have already received COVID-19 vaccines.

Meanwhile, 237 candidate vaccines are still being developed worldwide -- 64 of them in clinical trials -- in countries including Germany, China, Russia, Britain and the United States, according to information released by the World Health Organization on Jan. 15. Enditem
