NYC COVID-19 test positivity rate up to 9.03 pct, new cases down to 3,484: mayor

NEW YORK, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- New York City's COVID-19 test positivity rate on a seven-day average went up to 9.03 percent, compared with 8.83 percent one day earlier, Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted on Friday.

Meanwhile, de Blasio said that there were 253 new hospital admissions and new cases of the coronavirus reached 3,484, adding that "Don't let your guard down this weekend. Look out for each other and keep yourself and your community safe."

On Thursday, infrastructure grants totaling 38 million U.S. dollars were announced to fund applied research and development facilities at four of New York City's leading scientific research institutions: Columbia University, Montefiore Medical Center's Einstein Campus, the New York Stem Cell Foundation, and Rockefeller University.

"New York City has fought back COVID-19 by trusting science and working closely with our partners in the scientific community. That work is only just beginning," said the mayor in regard with the announcement.
