XI'AN, China, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's second-tier football club Shaanxi Chang'an Athletic on Saturday named Oscar Cespedes Cabeza as its new head coach.

The club had been without a head coach since November 29, 2020, when previous incumbent South Korean Kim Boon-Gil left.

Oscar, 42, is a former midfielder in La Masia in Spain. He retired in 2014 and joined Qingdao Huanghai in 2016 as the youth training director.

In the 2019 season, the Spaniard was appointed as Qingdao's head coach and helped Qingdao secure promotion to the Chinese Super League (CSL) after claiming first place in the second-tier China League One.

Chang'an Athletic entered a training camp on January 21 in Dongguan, south China's Guangdong Province. The club finished 10th in the second-tier China League One in the 2020 season.

"We believed that our new coach will help us prepare the new season well, and bring us good results and more surprises," said the club in a media release. Enditem
