DAMASCUS, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Pro-government fighters found a mass grave with nine bodies in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour on Tuesday, a war monitor reported.

The nine bodies belong to Islamic State (IS) militants who were killed during battles with the Syrian government forces years ago, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

In October 2020, a Syrian tribe uncovered a mass grave with the bodies of 26 people killed by the IS militants in Deir al-Zour in 2014.

The IS has lost key areas across Syria but is still now present in the desert region stretching from the countryside of Deir al-Zour to the central province of Homs. Enditem
