KIEV, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Ukrainian Navy will acquire a complex of improved Bayraktar Tactical Block 2 (TB2) drones from a Turkish company this year, Ukrinform news agency reported Wednesday.

Representatives of the navy held talks on Tuesday with those of Turkish leading drone maker Baykar Makina regarding the purchase of the unmanned combat aerial vehicles, according to Ukrinform.

The complex "will operate as a part of the Naval Forces both on land and at sea," said Oleksiy Neizhpapa, commander of the navy.

In October 2020, Ukrainian Minister of Defense Andriy Taran and President of Turkey's Defense Industries Ismail Demir signed a memorandum outlining their intentions to launch and implement joint projects to build warships, unmanned aerial vehicles and all types of turbines.

Meanwhile, Vadym Ihorovych, general director of Ukraine's state-owned company Ukrspetsexport, said in an interview with online publication Left Bank that the country planned to purchase six to 12 complexes of Bayraktar TB2, and that a company was being built to undertake the production of the drones in Ukraine.
