BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia has officially approved the emergency use of China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine in the Southeast Asian country, according to a Ministry of Health statement on Thursday.

"The Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia authorized the emergency use of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine that has been developed by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products Co., Ltd of the People's Republic of China," Health Minister Mam Bunheng said in the statement.

WARSAW -- Some 1.3 million people in Poland have so far received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 289,000 got a second jab, showed information on the government website Thursday.

The government aims to vaccinate 3 million Poles by the end of March. So far, over 94 percent of medical doctors and 80 percent of care home inhabitants have received at least one shot, government coordinator Michal Dworczyk said on Monday.

HANOI -- Vietnam recorded nine new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Thursday, according to its Ministry of Health.

The new infections brought the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 1,957 with 35 deaths.

MINSK -- Belarus reported 1,708 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking its total to 253,413, according to the country's health ministry.

So far, 1,755 people have died of the disease in the country, including nine over the past 24 hours, it said.

STOCKHOLM -- Sweden's health agency said on Thursday that it is preparing for the second phase of the country's vaccination program, as 2.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines are expected to be available this month and in March.

Up to date, more than 264,000 people have been inoculated, and most of them are elderly, the authority told a press briefing.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia on Thursday reported 4,571 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing its total tally to 231,483.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that three of the new cases are imported and 4,568 are local transmissions.

VIENNA -- Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said on Thursday that there should be "no geopolitical taboos" when it comes to the approval of COVID-19 vaccines.

"The European Medicines Agency should of course also examine the approval of Chinese or Russian vaccines" as soon as they submit the application, said Kurz in a statement sent to the Austrian Press Agency. Enditem
