ULAN BATOR, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- A total of 164 centenarians are living in Mongolia, including a woman aged 114, according to data released Friday by the country's National Statistics Office.

The number of people aged 100 and older increased by 48 compared to the same period last year, the agency said, adding that most of the centenarians are female.

The official data was released ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year or Year of the Ox, known locally as the White Moon, which symbolizes the start of spring and the end of winter.

According to the lunar calendar, the White Moon this year begins on Feb. 12, which is also regarded as a traditional holiday to pay respect to seniors. During the holiday, the government traditionally sends gifts to people aged 100 and older. Enditem
