NAIROBI, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) plans to support transboundary conservation of iconic wildlife species such as elephants and rhinos, an official said on Wednesday.
Kenneth Kimitei, senior ecologist, Tsavo Mkomazi Landscape AWF told Xinhua that joint patrols to monitor poaching activities can enhance the population of the continent's rich wildlife resources.
"Wildlife don't know boundaries and can easily cross borders hence the need for transboundary conservation of the animal species," Kimitei said.
AWF added that it also supports the joint and concurrent patrols by Kenya and Tanzania authorities in order to reduce wildlife crimes.
Kimitei observed that poachers tend to commit crimes in one African country and run into neighboring states in order to escape justice.
He noted that international cooperation can also help to protect illegal incursion of national parks and games reserves located on common borders. Enditem
