CAIRO, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Iran on Sunday warned of the resurgence of COVID-19 pandemic during the upcoming Iranian new year Nowruz starting on March 20. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 death toll in Israel crossed 6,000.

The observance of health protocols in Iran has reached its lowest level in the past four months, said Sima Sadat Lari, the spokeswoman for Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

"We hope that all people observe the hygiene principles, and avoid unnecessary travels and gatherings to prevent another wave of this disease in the country," she said.

Iran reported 7,593 COVID-19 cases and 88 new deaths on Sunday, raising the total nationwide infections to 1,746,953 and the death toll to 61,230, said Lari.

A total of 1,492,488 people have recovered from the disease, while 3,831 others remained in intensive care units, she added.

In Israel, the health ministry reported 868 new COVID-19 cases and 20 more fatalities, raising its tally of infections to 818,548 and its death toll to 6,008.

The ministry also reported that the tally of recoveries in Israel surged by 8,467 to 784,566, while the number of active cases decreased to 27,974.

In Turkey, the total number of COVID-19 cases surged to 2,879,390 after 13,378 new cases were confirmed.

The coronavirus-related death toll in Turkey rose by 68 to 29,489, while the tally of recoveries soared by 15,516 to 2,701,076.

Iraqi Ministry of Health reported on Sunday 3,866 new COVID-19 cases, bringing total nationwide infections in Iraq to 758,184.

It also reported 32 new deaths, raising the death toll from the infectious virus to 13,751, while the total recoveries in Iraq climbed by 3,942 to 685,770.

Morocco announced 305 new COVID-19 infections and five more deaths, bringing its tally of confirmed cases to 488,937 and its death toll to 8,723.

The tally of recoveries from the disease increased by 392 to 475,849 in Morocco, according to the Moroccan Ministry of Health.

Jordan reported 8,053 new coronavirus cases and 61 new deaths, raising its tally of infections to 477,053 and its death toll to 5,346. The tally of recoveries from the virus in Jordan climbed by 6,068 to 396,195.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) reported 1,992 new COVID-19 cases and seven more deaths, taking its tally on infections to 426,397 and its total fatalities to 1,395. The UAE's tally of recoveries from the disease rose by 2,169 to 405,647.

Lebanon registered 3,086 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of coronavirus infections in the country to 418,448.

The coronavirus-related deaths in Lebanon went up by 46 to 5,380 in Lebanon, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported.

The Kuwaiti Health Ministry reported 1,063 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 209,523.

The ministry also announced seven more deaths, taking the death toll to 1,172, while the tally of recoveries rose by 1,390 to 194,172.

Algeria reported 122 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total confirmed cases in the North African country to 124,265.

The death toll from the virus rose by two to 3,036, while the tally of recoveries climbed by 104 to 79,947, said the Algerian Ministry of Health in a statement.

In Qatar, the health ministry announced 485 new COVID-19 infections, taking the tally of confirmed cases in the Gulf state to 170,252.

Qatar's tally of recoveries from the disease surged by 321 to 158,197, while the total fatalities increased by one to 266, according to a ministry statement.

The Omani health ministry confirmed 1,610 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total confirmed cases in the sultanate to 146,867.

Oman's tally of recoveries soared by 1,202 to 136,429, while its death toll increased by eight to 1,608, according to a ministry statement. Enditem
