Roundup: Turkey confirms over 30,000 new COVID-19 infections; Iraq's daily cases exceed 5,000

CAIRO, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Turkey on Saturday reported 30,021 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the nationwide caseload to 3,179,115. Meanwhile, 5,062 new cases were announced by the Iraqi Ministry of Health on Saturday, raising the tally to 827,157.

In Turkey, the death toll from the virus rose by 151 to 30,923, while the total recoveries climbed to 2,939,929 after 18,892 more cases recovered in the last 24 hours, according to its Health Ministry.

The Iraqi Ministry of Health reported 20 new fatalities, raising the death toll from the infectious virus to 14,177, while the total recoveries in the country climbed by 4,368 to 741,115.

Iran reported 8,120 new COVID-19 cases, raising its tally of infections to 1,846,923. The death toll from the virus surged by 85 to 62,308.

Lebanon registered on Saturday 2,957 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections to 458,338, the Health Ministry reported.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the virus in the country went up by 45 to 6,058.

The Kuwaiti Health Ministry reported on Saturday 1,198 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total infections in the country to 227,178.

The ministry also announced nine more deaths, taking the death toll to 1,279, while the tally of recoveries rose by 1,336 to 211,360.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) confirmed 2,304 new COVID-19 cases, taking its total infections to 453,069. The virus has claimed 1,477 lives in the UAE with the addition of 11 more fatalities, while the tally of recoveries rose by 2,428 to 436,463.

In Morocco, 491 new COVID-19 cases were registered on Saturday, taking the tally in the North African country to 494,358, the health ministry said in a statement.

The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Morocco increased to 482,084 after 489 new ones were added, while the death toll rose to 8,798 with five new fatalities during the last 24 hours.

The Qatari Health Ministry on announced 614 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the Gulf state to 177,135.

Meanwhile, 382 more recovered from the virus, bringing the overall recoveries to 162,555, while the fatalities increased by two to 284, according to a ministry statement.

Algeria on Saturday reported 93 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the North African country to 116,750.

The death toll from the virus rose to 3,077 after three new fatalities were added, while the total number of recoveries in the country reached 91,193 after 82 more patients recovered from the disease, said the Algerian Ministry of Health in a statement.

A batch of China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines, donated by the Chinese government to Sudan, has arrived at the Khartoum International Airport.
