JERUSALEM, April 11 (Xinhua) -- The active coronavirus cases in Israel dropped by 114 on Sunday morning to 3,890, the lowest since June 16, 2020, the state's Ministry of Health said.

The new figure reflects a sharp decline in active cases since Feb. 5, when 84,784 active cases were registered.

Also, the number of COVID-19 patients in serious conditions in Israel decreased from 268 to 263, the lowest since July 21, 2020, when there were 256 patients in serious conditions. The number has been on a steady decline for several weeks, after climbing to an all-time high in mid-January.

The total number of coronavirus patients in Israel reached 835,871, while the number of death cases rose to 6,294.

The rate of the reproduction number, also known as the R number, currently stands at 0.73 in Israel.

The R number is an indicator used to determine how fast the COVID-19 is spreading, as an R number greater than 1 means that the number of patients increases at an exponential rate and multiplies from time to time.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Israel has abated continuously as the country succeeded to vaccinate a majority of its population.

The number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 in Israel reached on Saturday nearly 5.31 million, or 57.1 percent of its total population, since the vaccination campaign began on Dec. 20, 2020. Enditem
