BiH posts 16.6 pct export increase in Q1 2021

SARAJEVO, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH) goods exports in the first three months (Q1) of 2021 totaled 3.1 billion KM (1.9 billion U.S. dollars), up 16.6 percent year-on-year, said the country's Agency for Statistics on Tuesday.

Goods imports totaled 4.4 billion KM (2.7 billion U.S. dollars) in the same period, up 2.7 percent, the Agency noted.

The coverage of import by export was 69.6 percent and international trade in goods deficit amounted to 1.3 billion KM (793 million U.S. dollars), it added.

Export to the European Union (EU), BiH's most important trading partner, amounted to 2.3 billion KM (1.4 billion U.S. dollars) in Q1 2021, up 17.9 percent year-on-year. In the same period, imports from the EU amounted to 2.7 billion KM (1.6 billion U.S. dollars), up 2 percent.

BiH's export to the signatory countries of the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) -- Albania, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro and Serbia -- in Q1 2021 was up 18.9 percent year-on-year, while import was up 5.8 percent.

The country's top export products were metal goods, furniture and electricity, whereas the top three import products were petroleum and petroleum products, vehicles, and iron and steel. (1 KM = 0.61 U.S. dollar) Enditem
