BEIRUT, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian Foreign Affairs Minister Peter Szijjarto pledged on Monday more international support for Lebanon aimed at assisting refugees and preventing illegal immigration, the National News Agency reported.

"We commend Lebanon for sheltering millions of refugees and providing them with all the necessary supplies, but we also believe that refugees must return to their homeland," Szijjarto said during his meeting with Lebanese caretaker Foreign Minister Charbel Wehbe in Beirut.

Szijjarto said that Lebanon's stability is essential to security and stability in the Middle East and is "of paramount importance for Europe in general and for Hungary specifically."

The Hungarian foreign minister also slammed foreign intervention in Lebanon's internal affairs while insisting that the formation of a cabinet in Lebanon is an internal issue that should be solved among political parties in the country.

He added that Hungary is also keen to help Lebanon in its fight against COVID-19, noting that he has brought 20 ventilators and 20,000 masks as donation.

Meanwhile, Wehbe explained the challenges facing Lebanon and thanked Hungary for its continuous support. Enditem
